The Design Process

Full Service Design

Here you will take a behind the scenes look at how things work here at Olive + Co so that you can get a better understanding of the entire process.

01| Initial Consultation

The first thing I'll do is meet with you in your home (or business) for an initial consultation. Consider this a collaborative client and designer interview; without the intimidation factor. This is so that I can get to know you as well as your project needs to see if we are a good fit for each other. Some of the details we will discuss include your style, how you will be using the space, the dilemma's you would like solved in the space and the time-frame for completion along with your budget. I try to hit the ground running and give you some design input that is unique to your space!

02 | Design Proposal & Retainer

After the consultation I'll create your Design Proposal which outlines the scope of work for the project as well as a breakdown of my design fees and the total amount for the retainer in order to start designing. Once it is approved by you and the retainer is payed the project begins!

03 | Site Measure and Trade Day

This is where I invite all of the trades that will be working on this project for a site visit to discuss the project scope and to take measurements and photos. They will then provide a written estimate outlining their scope of work and the cost for labor and/or materials which I will present in the next phase.

04 | Design Presentation & Budget Meeting

This is what you've been waiting for! After weeks of sitting at the edge of your seat you'll get to finally see a full presentation of your designed space which includes:

  • Color scheme
  • Space Planning
  • Renderings and furniture selection
  • Fabric memos and hard finishes
  • Detailed budget breakdown

Now will be your chance to speak up about any revisions that you would like to see done. Once the final selections are approved and deposit for purchasing all materials is made we can move onto the next phase.

05 | Procurement and Project Management

In this step I manage everything from creating purchase orders, tracking orders, assessing lead times and noting any back orders or discontinued items in case re-selections needs to be made. I stay on-top of the entire process to make sure the projected timeline is on track with all of my vendors. This process can be broken down into three categories:

Construction and Renovation Begins: Here is where every detail of the project is managed to ensure a successful outcome. I'll collaborate with builders, vendors and fabricators and make site visits as necessary.

Receiving Orders and Initial Installations: This is where all items we ordered are received at our warehouse where they go under inspection for damages and are stored for the big installation day. Depending on the item, some custom items (like window treatments, for example) will be installed prior to the big day as they require more handling and care.

Installation Day: Our "white glove" delivery service will bring everything into your space, assemble furniture, and leave without a trace so your space is clean and tidy. I'll then go in and tweak and adjust as I see fit so you can see it in its final form.

06 | Project Reveal

My favorite part of the project (and hopefully yours too!). This is where all the hard work pays off! That beautiful concept design you were presented at the beginning has now come to life. And the best part is it's all yours!

07 | Project Completion

Now that you've sung your praises of the final result and shouted it from the rooftop, it's time to go through and make sure everything is perfect and ready for photography.

Final Walk Through: Although I strive for perfection with all of my vendors, mistakes can happen. But not to worry! I'll do a final walk through with you to see if there are any things you notice that need to be addressed.

Resolving Deficiencies: I'll coordinate with my vendors and trade resources to cure any deficiencies you find within 21 business days. Thankfully, this step is not needed in most cases, but I want to be sure you will be happy with your finished space.

Professional Photography: This final step is where your space is styled and dazzled up for a professional shoot with one of my photographers. I'll swoop in and style the space with a perfect throw or little candle to give it that magazine finished look. Once everything is done, if there is anything from the styled shoot that you absolutely adore and want to keep I would be happy to sell them to you.
